House Checks
To help residents enjoy a stay away from their homes, whether it is for a vacation or hospitalization, they can do so with a sense of confidence, thanks to the implementation of Belleair’s House Check Program. This complimentary service is provided to the residents of Belleair so that their time is more enjoyable and less worrisome as to the security of their homes.
How Do I Get A House Check Started?
To initiate a house check, residents should visit the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Website, and click Programs & Services> Learn More> Vacation House Checks. When you arrive to the Vacation House Checks webpage, fill out the House Check Form. You may leave the "Subdivision" box blank, as the computer will assign the proper Police Department based on your address. Once you have completed the form, click "Submit House Check" at the bottom of the screen. For assistance with this process, call (727) 588-3769.
How Does The House Check Work?
Once you have filled out the House Check form on the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Website, a confidential House Check list is sent out to officers via the dispatch computer system. Using the information you provide, the officers will visit your residence randomly during shifts, and will conduct a foot patrol around the exterior of the residence to make sure that windows and doors are locked and undamaged. Occasionally, circumstances arise where officers aren't able to physically walk the property. In these cases, the officer completes a visual check from their vehicle to assess if everything looks in order. Once the officer has completed a house check, the date, time, and the officer’s badge number are logged, indicating when the house check was completed. This process will continue until the end date you have provided.
NOTE: We do request that, if you return home early, you notify the Police Department of your return so that the house watch can be canceled. Please also contact the Police Department if you need to extend your return date.
Exceptions
- Houses that are "For Sale" and empty do not qualify for the House Check Program
