Department Responsibilities
The Building and Permitting Department is responsible for the local administration and enforcement of the Florida Building Code and the Town’s Land Development Code. These responsibilities cover new construction, renovations, remodels, repairs, and additions to existing buildings. The review and permitting process provides a means to protect current and future residents by making sure that structures are constructed properly. Departmental duties also include review of applications and plans for code compliance, permit issuance and inspection of work.
The Building Official is also responsible for making sure that structures are compliant with FEMA regulations and construction sites have properly mitigated impacts to stormwater run-off.
Permitting
To better serve you, we have expanded our office hours and cut off times for next-day inspections. More details are available below. Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
The Building and Permitting Department recently launched a software that allows residents and contractors to apply for permits from the comfort of their home. After approval and payment, the applicant will receive an email with their permit placard to print. This must still be visible from the street, as with previous placards.
Building Inspections
Any requests for building inspections should be made to the Building Department by 3:30 pm for an inspection on the next business day. Inspections for Mondays must be requested by 3:30 pm on Thursday. Inspection requests can be made through our OpenGov portal or by calling (727) 588 - 1477.
No inspections are performed on Wednesdays.
