Mayor Gary H. Katica
Mayor Gary H. Katica was first appointed to the Town of Belleair’s Commission in November of 2000. He was subsequently elected in 2001 where he served as a Commissioner until 2007. In 2007 Mayor Katica was elected Mayor of the Town of Belleair.
Mayor Katica was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Queens, New York. From 1952 to 1956, he served in the United States Air Force as a Control Tower Operator in the Korean War, and in 1957, he graduated from the Federal Air Traffic Academy in Oklahoma City and was an Air Traffic Controller in the New York Center. From 1957 to 1962, Mayor Katica attended C.W. Post College on Long Island University on a basketball scholarship.
In the late sixties and early seventies, Mayor Katica served Port Jefferson New York as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board and the Parks Commission. He was also elected as a trustee and appointed Police Commissioner.
In 1979, he, his wife Mary, and their two children Harry and Irene moved to Clearwater, and in 1984, to Belleair. Harry Katica is now the Director of Private Client Research at Raymond James Financial. Irene Katica worked at St. Joseph's Hospital as a pediatric registered nurse until her passing on June 21, 2015. Gary and Mary are blessed to have five grandchildren.
Mayor Katica has been employed with Dimmitt Cadillac since 1981 and currently serves as sales manager.
Mayor Katica was involved in Rotary International for 24 years, serving in several executive roles in both the Centereach, Long Island Rotary Club and the Clearwater Beach Rotary Club. He also served as a volunteer usher at Ruth Eckerd Hall, a member of Belleair’s Planning and Zoning Board, and a member of the Belleair Civic Association. Mayor Katica is also a member of the American Legion.
Mayor Katica represents the Town Commission as the Commission Advisor for the town's Finance Board and also represents the Town of Belleair on the Pinellas County Mayor's Council.
